How to Create a Social Media Content Strategy That Gets Attention and Stops the Scroll

If you want your content to stand out, the goal is simple. A strong social media content strategy should stop the scroll, keep attention, and give people a reason to engage. Here is a clear, practical way to do it.

Start by finding what already works

Look at trending videos on TikTok and Instagram, check competitor pages, and review your own top-performing posts. Pay attention to what gets views, comments, and shares. You are not copying ideas, you are taking proven concepts and making them your own. At CMA we believe imitation is a form of flattery.  We see it all the time in this business.

Focus on the first 3 seconds

This is the most important part of your video. Three (3) seconds sounds short, but in this world of social it is an eternity. If you do not grab attention immediately, people will scroll. Use a strong hook that creates curiosity or solves a problem.
Examples:

  • “Nobody tells you this about buying a car”
  • “Here is what most businesses get wrong about marketing”

Keep your content short and valuable

People want quick, useful, or entertaining content. Get to the point fast. The best posts either educate, entertain, inspire, or relate to your audience. Many of the strongest videos combine two of these.

Use the right video length

Each platform has a sweet spot:

  • TikTok works best around 7 to 20 seconds, but can go longer if the story is strong
  • Instagram Reels perform well between 7 and 30 seconds
  • Facebook tends to perform better with slightly longer videos, around 30 to 90 seconds

You can use the same video across platforms

Yes, and you should. This saves time and increases your reach. Keep the core video the same, but adjust captions, on-screen text, and sounds if needed to match each platform’s style.

Always include a call to action

Do not assume people know what to do next. Tell them. Ask them to follow, comment, share, save, or visit your website.

Stay consistent

Consistency is my word of the year.  Just make it real and post it.  No AI! People are starving for REAL content. You do not need every post to go viral. Just keep after it! What matters most is showing up regularly. Aim for 1 to 3 posts per week and pay attention to what performs best so you can improve over time.

The bottom line

A strong social media content strategy is simple, engaging, and consistent. Focus on strong hooks, short videos, and clear messaging. When you do that, you will start to see more views, more engagement, and more growth.

If all of this sounds great but you do not have the time to do it yourself, we get it. That is what we do every day at Creative Marketing Arts. Let’s build something that actually gets noticed.
